About The Mayor's Youth Council (MYC)

The Mayor's Youth Council is made up of 9th-12th grade students who are city residents. The council members serve a 1-year term from October to May.

Council members work to broaden the scope of youth leadership in City government by:

• Discussing policy issues that affect them with the Mayor, City Commission and staff
• Gather input from area youth
• Promote awareness of the strengths and abilities of youth
• Coordinate with other local and national organizations

To be considered for the Mayor's Youth Council, make sure these apply to you:

• Live in Grand Rapids
• Enrolled in the 9th - 12th grade (any high school is eligible)

Additional Information

• Student candidates will receive follow up communication from Our Community's Children Staff (occyouth@grcity.us) after their application has been received to confirm their application responses and complete their pre-entry interview.

All MYC student candidates for the '26-'27 Academic Year must complete the following by Friday, Sept. 25th:

1. Submit their MYC '26-'27 Student Application
2. Participate in a short entry interview
3. Submit their short student biography and photo

MYC Student Applicant Information

All MYC Student Applicants must be residents of the City of Grand Rapids and reside within one of the City's 3 District Wards.
